I just wanted to mention that I have tried this soap and the thing I love about it is it smells sooooooooo good AND it is a natural soap that replenishes your natural skin oils. So many soaps are actually drying to the skin and this one does not do that. They have many other bath products that are great! This company is an American made company and have great reasonable prices! Many many choices of soap to choose from! They also have fabulous contest everyday to win soap on Utube! WRINKLED JEANS

Our washer and dryer finally broke down after many years so we were in the market for a new pair. I checked around and decided that with our utility room so small it might be a great idea to buy a front loader stack-able washer and dryer. The salesman was a man about 26 years old and he answered all my questions and was extremely helpful. I had to chuckle because he went on to say he did not like wrinkled jeans and he conducted an experiment on the model that I would be buying and the model he owned.

He said to wash the jeans on medium spin. I said really, why? He explained it was the high spin cycle that caused the wrinkles. It makes the heavier fabrics wrinkle more. After my washer was delivered I washed my husbands heavy jeans on medium spin and they came out beautiful. No more wrinkled jeans! I was so thrilled because I learned something new and who would have ever thought I would have learned it from a young man!

For those of you who are new to my blog I have some videos about cleaning tips for the bathroom and other tips like how to make your own laundry soap in fifteen minutes. How to make dryer sheets and linen water as well. I will be adding more here and there. I also have sewing lessons available.

COMFORT QUILTS

Welcome everyone. I am in-between projects so I thought I would blog about how I got started making comfort quilts. It began in 1956. I was living next door to my future husband who, at the time was not even living next door. It was around January 22 and my parents brought home our baby brother. I was so excited! He was sleeping and I wanted to know what color his eyes were. I thought he was beautiful. Our entire family adored Michael. He was such a joy to have around. I do not remember much about him when he was a small baby but after he was a year or two I remember he used to carry his blankie around with him all the time. Not only did he carry his blankie, you always saw cotton or string dangling from his ears. We never knew why he did that but it was his signature.

He had beautiful blue eyes and the whitest hair I had ever seen. He always found things to entertain himself with. My mom would have me watch him and take him with me. I never really minded except one time I asked if my twin brother could watch him and she said she could depend on me much better.

After we all grew up and left home so we did not see much of one another. We stayed in touch by phone and occasionally visited each other but not very often. It was not until 2001 that I was living in a town very close to Mike and got re- acquainted with him. We had so much fun together. I remember it was really cold and clear one night and he wanted to get out his telescope and look at the stars. We spent a couple of hour doing that and I saw Saturn so clearly. It was beautiful. He had been married 10 years and he was very much in love with his wife. They acted like newly weds. They pampered each other all the time. It was so beautiful. I can't remember if it was Christmas or for his birthday, my sister and I made Mike a star quilt. We had so much fun.

Several years later, I was in Dallas visiting Mike in the hospital. We were staying at this apartment for out patients and we were sitting on the deck visiting. Mike had a rare and aggressive cancer. As he sat talking he said: Do you remember that quilt you made me? A tear rolled down his face and he said: It has brought me so much comfort! I hugged him and we both cried. A few months later we lost him to cancer.

After Mike passed away I began making quilts. I figure over the period of a couple of years I had made and given away about 300 lap quilts. I gave them to whoever at the time needed comforted. It was not until I had visited my daughter in Georgia that I realized I made all the quilts in memory of Michael. After that I began calling them Mike's comfort quilts.

I guess the reason I wanted to share this story with everyone is because sewing is almost becoming a thing of the past. I would like to encourage people to get their craft on and make a comfort quilt for someone in their life that they love. When you experience the receivers response it makes you feel like you handed them the world with everything good in it. You can make a quilt and not even own a sewing machine. It might take a person one day to make a very simple quilt up to a queen size. Maybe 2 days if you are a beginner. It is a project one could have their entire family pitch in and make. Mother's Day is coming up and what a beautiful thing to give a mother, sister, daughter, aunt, or friend! Think about it, When mothers cuddle their babies on the couch reading to them or watching a movie it is so much more enjoyable when you snuggled in a blanket. When your sick or sad a blankie brings comfort to the soul and soothes the spirit.

Maybe Debi's pictures just might change your mind. Debi loves to take pictures of West Texas wild flowers/weeds. I was totally amazed that her pictures could make me fall in love with these pesky little wild flowers as she calls them. But through a camera lens they are amazing. It was difficult for me to pick my favorite weed LOL! I hope you too might change your mind about weeds. Enjoy!

My pictures are up for some of my projects that I have been working on. I wanted everyone to know that I have 2 different sewing videos on chair toppers. One is made out of burlap and the other is fabric. Both are lined. The most time consuming part is making the pattern fit. The rest is fairly simple. But even at that it is not difficult. I am considering making a video on how to make a simple lap quilt, apron with pot holders, and decorative pillows. Any suggestions to what you might like to learn how to sew? Meanwhile I would like to remind you I have videos on how to make laundry soap for $2.50 (3 gallons) and yes it can be used for front HE's. Posting Mother's Day ideas for sewing projects!

Hi everyone! I apologize for so many post but Utube only allows 10 minutes per video and on a how to sewing project that is not enough time. If I can load a 20 minute video to lower my post (emails) I will do that. With Mother's Day coming up I wanted to get these on my blog so people can see them while I am reading up on this. I am new to blogging and have made a few mistakes uploading my videos. I am still learning this program. I think this will be worth your time to view because there are some great ideas for Mother's Day here. I am sorry I can't share pictures yet but like I said I am still learning. I am trying to figure out how to post a picture with the video link like the little mouse. I just don't remember how I did that. These videos are all on table-scapes! I enjoyed making these so much. I learned how to stamp fabric . . so fun! I can see many possibilities with this tool. Please leave me a comment about what I might do to improve my blog. I am open to ideas. A Mother's Day Idea

Are you wondering what to do for your mom this Mother's Day? I have been making napkins lately. I am working on a how to video on how to make them and how to wrap them for a lovely Mother's Day gift. I have had so much fun working on this project. I have read on Blog Frog how women are interested in sewing and decided to make a video on how to sew simple things so they might get started sewing and fulfilling their passion to sew.

I recently made my own pattern for a chair topper. I filmed it so anyone wanting to learn how to make your own customer topper can see how I did mine. It is not perfect but after making of few I feel confident that one would achieve the desired results and receive many compliments from family and friends.

I tried to find ideas on the internet but did not find anything that was like the one I imagined. I decided to make one that showed a different type of design than a print or solid color. I will make my next topper differently because I think I can improve upon it. I also wanted to show a stamping design so I kind of made this one for video basically, not necessarily what I would make for myself.

I will begin editing tonight and hopefully have it on my blog for the weekend.
If anyone might have different ideas please share them with me. I have to see something made and then decide if I like it. I wished I could imagine it before so I would have exactly what I want but for me it is trial and error.

The handles are made from grocery bags and the inside insulation is made from Capri Sun packages. Lined with a pretty cotton print and burlap.

Save money by making your own laundry soap

Hello everyone! It is always a great thing to save money! I have been saving a lot of money by making my very own laundry soap. It takes about 15 minutes to make this and it works as well as Tide. My sister has been using this recipe for several years. She used to always use Tide. I made a video on how to make it and will give you the link.
I have found Zote soap at Farmers market, Big Lots, Walmart, and local grocery stores. The washing soda is a little more difficult to find. Check in the area of the fabric softeners. You can do an internet search and buy online. Arm and Hammer Washing Soda, not baking soda. Arm and hammer sells it online or calling their 800 number they can tell you where to buy it in your area. People have said Walmart carries it but they do not in my area.

I began making quilts several years ago. I had a younger brother who when he was a baby used to carry his blankie around everywhere he went. That was his signature.You always saw him with his blankie and we never figured out why, but he would put string or small pieces of cotton in each of his ears. He was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer.I had visited him at the apartment in Dallas and he had asked me if I remembered the quilt I had made him for Christmas. I said: that I had and he said: as a tear rolled down his cheek, it had brought him so much comfort. We both hugged each other. He lost his battle with cancer and about a year after he passed away I started making lap quilts. I did not know why it consumed me so until I realized that I was making them for him.

In just a few years I estimate that I made about 300 and given them to people who needed comforted. Here is a lap quilt that I made out of minkie fabric.
